Fran’s hearing difficulties and Meniere’s symptoms began seven years ago and she subsequently had to wear two hearing aids. In 2016 she had cochlear implant in her left ear.
Fran attended the University of Manitoba and Success Angus Business College, and also took courses through the Institute of Canadian Bankers. Fran’s career was in banking in the administration area. Since she “retired” Fran has been involved in several community organizations. More recently she has volunteered with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and the Winnipeg Family Centre. In the last year or so Fran discovered the hearing loss support group in Transcona and the Meniere’s Support Group at Access River East. Most importantly, Fran says she discovered she wasn’t alone and didn’t need to hide her disability. Through these groups she learned about and then joined CHHA Manitoba Chapter. According to Fran, “As a newby I am excited to be part of this organization and hope to contribute by serving others facing hearing challenges.”
