Introduction

The Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association developed this web site to help members of the hard of hearing community find the information they need to live successfully with hearing loss. On our Education pages you will find information about Living With Hearing Loss classes, a ten-week program run several times throughout the year, which includes valuable information about hearing loss and coping skills, and also provides students an opportunity to develop their speechreading ability. The Education pages also includes tips for effective communication both with and for hard of hearing people.

Our site also has information about support groups: (1) to assist those who have, or are preparing for, a cochlear implant; (2) the CHHA Young Adults Network for hard of hearing youth; and (3) people who have been diagnosed with Meniere's disease.

As an organization committed to the education and support of the hard of hearing, our site also includes a FAQs section addressing many aspects of hearing loss. Our Access page describes some of the equipment that's available for use at home, at work and in public venues, as well as a listing of Winnipeg entertainment venues that provide ALD equipment. Also included in this section is a partial listing of Winnipeg churches that have ALD equipment. The About Us page includes details about our Board of directors and chapter advocacy activities on behalf of hard of hearing people. To further assist our readers we also have a Links page that provides links to other trusted sites. Our Membership page provides details about the benefits of membership in CHHA Manitoba Chapter, and our Donations page includes a link to a secure site where you can make on-line donations to the chapter.

We have recently started to collect Personal Stories by chapter members who describe their own experiences with hearing loss, and the ways they have overcome the many challenges they have faced. Reading these stories, hard of hearing people and their families and friends will feel encouraged to move forward with their own solutions.

Over time we plan to expand our site and add additional features. You can email us your ideas for site expansion at admin@chha-mb.ca - we'd love to hear from you!
